I have many of the symptoms of lupus (extreme fatigue, abnormal blood clotting, mouth sores, miscarriages, short duration fevers for no reason, "butterfly" rash on nose and cheeks; I was even taken to the hospital with elevated liver enzymes), but my ANA test came back negative. One doctor says it is still possible that I have lupus, while another says it is not possible. Who is right?

ANA test is positive for more than 95% of SLE cases. ANA negative lupus is very rare , such patients have positive anti ds.DNA or anti Ro . If all the above are negative lupus can be ruled out. . But in many cases these tests get positive about one to two years after onset of symptoms. Hence testing has to be repeated, to confirmly rule out lupus.
Thank you.

It is possible to have Lupus without the text book blood levels that the average population show. The best indicator is the treatment options after finding out that you are symptomatic. If you generally pose 5 or more of the Lupus symptoms, you have it. Not all doctors totally rely on blood testing because there are many factors that can contaminate or cause the results to be off.

After medication is administered and symptoms subside, it is even more evidence that the disease is present.
