I was wondering what is my chances of having lupus since my first cousin died from sle lupus and my mom has it. I have been having joint paint, migraines, fatigue, anemia, and memory problems, hard to concentrate. Now, I am 25 years old. I had a blood test done to check for ANA. The blood test came back negative. So, why am I having these symptoms that come and go?
On calculation it gives a result that you have about 15 to 20 % chance of getting the disease. Your symptoms doesnt completely sugest of the disease. So nothing to worry at the moment. Dont get misled by a negative ANA result. ANA test is positive for more than 95% of SLE cases. ANA negative lupus is very rare , such patients have positive anti ds.DNA or anti Ro . If all the above are negative lupus can be ruled out. . But in many cases these tests get positive about one to two years after onset of symptoms. Hence testing has to be repeated, to confirmly rule out lupus.
Thank you.
Thank you.
The research data presently available would suggest that your chance of developing lupus is about fifteen percent. If you do develop it, it will be likely to show up within the next few years, so it may be worth getting tested on an annual basis. Bear in mind, however, that there are a number of other conditions which could cause the symptoms you describe, most of them less serious (which isn't to say that it's not worth your while to seek treatment). Post-viral fatigue is a common one which comes to mind.
