My 20 yr old grand-daughter has lupus with heart and lung involvment, Reyenauds, R.A., CFS. She can not work or live by herself. Her mental stability is declining fast which makes her non-compliant with her Lupus. We are having trouble finding competant healthcare for Lupus. I am 70 and can't handle it much longer alone. Where can she live and get medical and mental support? Who can help her file for Disability?
I have the following recommendations to address the healthcare and disability application issues:
- Apply for Medicaid and any other relevant Public Assistance benefits for your granddaughter at your local administering agency. Each state has its own unique Medicaid benefit programs, and procedures for applying for public assistance benefits. Please visit http://www.cms.hhs.gov/home/medicaid.asp to learn about Medicaid programs specific to your state of residence.
- Contact your local Protection and Advocacy program to receive guidance regarding applying for SSDI or SSI benefits for your granddaughter. They may also be able to assist with questions regarding Medicaid and Public Assistance. Please visit http://www.ssa.gov/work/ServiceProviders/PADirectory.html to find contact information for your state of residence.
Take care~
