Initial blood work came back that I had tested positive for lupus. After extra tests my doctor said I did not have lupus. Is this correct or should I get a second opinion? I have a lot of the symptoms of someone with lupus. I have also had a CBC, Chem panel and TSH, and more extensive tyroid studies and tests for rhuematoid arthritis. They all came back fine, except for the one for lupus, that I mentioned previously. Very confused and starting to think it is all in my head, but I do not feel depressed at all. Any suggestions?
It is possible to have a false positive test result. However, the testing done fro Lupus is very specific. If you are not positive for it, perhaps your doctor should be looking into other autoimmune diseases, such as Multiple Scerosis, Fibromyalgia, or Sarcordosis. Many times it takes an extensive battery of testing to finally get an accurate diagnosis and it may take a long time.
I know it did in my case and the case of my mother-in-law. It is not all in your head. Something you can do, is keep a daily calendar of your sysptoms to show your healthcare provider, it will give them a guide of some sort.
