I have had a low grade fever (99.5-100F) since last night, also I have muscle aches, fatigue, headache. Do you think this is from lupus flare up or may be flu virus? I have skipped the hydroxychloroquine for 3 days before symptoms develop. but still on prednisone.
It can be difficult to distinguish infection from SLE flare in the face of fever, but specific signs and symptoms of specific viral or bacterial syndromes suggest, of course, infection and is often accompanied by an elevated white blood cell count, On the other hand lupus exacerbatinos are often associated with low white blood cell counts and elevated anti-dsDNA antibodies as well as low complement levels. Additionally, symptoms, findings on examination and other laboratory studies may identify organ involvement by lupus activity.Regardless, persistent fever, especially in a steroid treated lupus patient, is always an indication to contact a treating physician for guidance.
