My husband was diagonised with discord lupus a few years ago. The rash is on the top of his head, the back of his neck and a circle patch on the left side of his face. None of the creams prescribed by the doctors seem to help. The infected areas are red, itchy and inflamed. There's also a large patch on his back that never seems to get heal, which is where his cat scratched him about 12 years ago. Are there any creams or natural remedies we can us to help this? It seems to be getting worse. Also is this heredity or could it have been caused by the scratch from the cat?

Such skin lesions can be called discoid lesions. they appear in about 5 to20 % of lupus patients.
they can appear as red scaly patches, severe itching, bullae.
treatment with topical application of glucocorticoics can help a lot.
in patiets with severe bl;eeding lesions i would suggest a blood platelet count. reduction in count is associated with manifestaions in some and requires high dose prednisolone therapy.A peripheral smear should also be done to rule out any haemolysis.
I don't find any relation with scratching by cat. better check for any allergic reactions.
thank you
thank you.

Hi I just did some quick research for you. Discord Lupus's cause is unknown but it is believed to be hereditary. If your husband smokes or is in the sun a lot it can hinder the healing. Has he had a biopsy to rule anything else out?
My son has eczema and had a spot that would not heal we used, Elidel, Protopic, and similar perscriptions as well as hydrocortizone but it didn't help. I found that just by replacing normal soaps with soaps specially designed to not aggravate skin conditions and using Curel Lotion helped a lot. I am not a medical expert here is a link to some info that answers most of your questions a little. I hope I helped and you are able to find a solution.
