Your pharmacist should be able to provide you with a salicylate-based ointment (related to aspirin) which will relieve the pain of the ulcers and help them to heal. You should wash your mouth morning, night and after eating with hot salty water; this will reduce associated swelling and help to protect against infection. Use an anti-bacterial toothpaste and always brush (gently) against the edges of your gums, even if there is ulceration there, to protect against gingival infection. Avoid acidic food and drink (like orange juice) and be careful to clean your mouth thoroughly after eating food with lots of small bits in it (like rice). If you are already receiving treatment for your lupus, this should help to minimise the damage done by the mouth ulcers too.
